Napa Valley Horse Rescue

Angela Carte

Rescue horses are a subject very close to my heart. Today I met an incredible woman, Angela Carte. She lives in Napa California and runs Napa Valley Horse Rescue. Last year she rescued about 75 horses that were on their way to slaughter when Angela stepped in and saved them. These were all healthy horses that now have good lives as riding horses in new, loving homes. Her focus is on rescuing horses that are adoptable; healthy, already broke, gentle, good size and not too old. By having her focus on horses that she easily can adopt out she's able to rescue more horses than if she took any or all horses that came in her way. The horses that she rescues are horses that would of been shipped to slaughter abroad.

Angela is a warm, positive person that obvious loves horses a lot and all the horses I met at the rescue loved her a lot. That was very easy to see. The horses had big pastures and no horse was by it's self. It made me very happy to see the unusual sizes of their pastures. The first four horses she showed me were on a 15acres pasture. In this part of California were land is very expensive and so that is most unusual. It was easy to see that the horses thrived in her care. They were happy, healthy and very curious. I have no doubt that she will adopt them out shortly. (I wanted to take one of them with me in the back of my car..)

In order to help more horses in danger, Angela (whom pays for all of this out of her own pocket,) is having a fundraiser benefiting the Napa Valley Horse Rescue: Sat Feb 2, 6pm-10pm. It's hosted by The Black Stallion Winery. The cost is $75 per person and includes 3 course meal-wine and there will be live entertainment. All proceeds goes to the rescue. I know that there are some tickets left. You should come (and spread the word)! Get tickets at http://NVHR.bpt.me/ or call (707) 227-9015.
